- Summary
- Mi-śafah le-śafah: Israeli writers, musicians, actors and a Rabbi/philosopher from varying countries and ethnic backgrounds discuss the relationship between their mother tongues and Hebrew. The film raises the question of the relationship between language of the immigrant (architect of the State of Israel) and Hebrew, inseparable from the construction of Zionism.
- Vaters Land: "Starting from Sigmund Freud's definition of mourning and from Hannah Arendt's observation of the behavior of German intellectuals in 1933, Nurith Aviv lets her friends in Germany speak about what, according to them, has been irrevocably lost. In the background, a traveling shot of 30 minutes, a trip with the S-Bahn through Berlin, hometown of her Jewish ancestors"--Http://www.viennale.at/cgi-bin/viennale/archiv/film.pl?id=951&lang=en.
- L'alphabet de Bruly Bouabré: "the story of Ivory Coast artist, Frederic Bruly Bouabré, who created 400 hundred pictograms, based on one-syllable words in his language, Bété, to help people in the Bete community learn to read more quickly"--Http://0-www.worldcat.org.l0.apu.edu.
- Langue sacrée, langue parlée: Originally a sacred language of prayer and scripture, Hebrew has now become the spoken language of everyday life in Israel. Here thirteen artists and writers born in Israel attempt to describe their relationship to the religious dimensions of the Hebrew language.
- Traduire: the last episode of a trilogy. It is a Babel-film, in which translators from different countries express themselves in their own languages, talk about their experience of passing on Hebraic literature written over the centuries: the Midrash, medieval Hebraic poetry, modern and contemporary literature. The translators speak with passion about the confrontation with a language, which sometimes leads them to transgress the rules of their own language"--Http://en.unifrance.org/movie.
