Summary
Composed in 1828 for Maria Malibran, the story is an adaptation of Rudolphe Kreutzer's ballet-pantomime Clari of 1820 which tells of Clari's seduction and abandonment by the wealthy, worldly Duke. The original six performances took place between December 9, 1828 and January 5, 1829 and a subsequent performance with revisions was given in January, 1830.
