Note
  • Study on the work of Joseph Anténor Firmin (1850-1911), a Haitian anthropologist, journalist, and politician. He is known for his book De l'égalité des races humaines and for pioneering the integration of race and physical anthropology and is considered as perhaps the first black anthropologist. His work was recognized not only in Haiti but also among many in the field of Africans scholarship as an early work of négritude. He had an impact on Jean Price-Mars, the founder of Haitian ethnology.
