Subjects
Note
  • Small-scale music dramas; the 2nd and 3rd works fragments.
  • For the dances and interludes that the librettist indicated only with words in the play, and for which no music was printed nor perhaps even composed by Hacquart, the performers have interpolated selections from Hacquart's Chelys, originally for solo viola da gamba, arranged here for instrumental ensemble.
  • The music for the 2nd work was originally by Servaas de Konink, but his music has been lost except for a single melody; the present recording comprises reconstructions by the performers.
  • The 3rd work originally had music also by Konink, but that is completely lost; the present recording comprises music by Bartholomeus Ruloffs for the same masque or farce, in a rococo style, arranged in 1880 by J.M. Coenen.
  • "De triomfeerende min has often been considered the first Dutch opera, but in fact it is a rather conventional pastoral not unlike a masque such as Cupid and death, by Locke and Christopher Gibbons"--Grove music online, May 19, 2014.
  • The 1st work written on the occasion of the Treaties of Peace of Nijmegen in 1678-1679.
  • Title from disc label.
  • Libretti in Dutch with English translations and program notes in Dutch and English (35 pages) inserted in container.
Language (note)
