- Summary
Playwright Pedro Monge Rafuls, who founded the Ollantay Center for the Arts in Queens, N.Y., is interviewed about his life and career by Ramón Espejo and Eva Cristina Vásquez. Originally from Cuba, Monge Rafuls worked in Miami and Chicago before settling in New York City, where he worked with the INTAR theater company. In 1977 he founded the Ollantay, a Latino cultural center, and formed the Ollantay Theater Ensemble. He soon launched a traveling theater company (inspired in part by Miriam Colón and her Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre), which performed at venues around the borough. In the 1990s he launched the Ollantay Theater Magazine, and served as its editor-in-chief. Monge Rafuls discusses his experiences, colleagues he has known and worked with, and related topics.
