- Summary
- "For years, Black queer conversations have centered around the intersectional accolades of historical media figures like Marsha P. Johnson and James Baldwin. However, rarely have any of these conversations given space or grace to other identities in media specifically Black fat gender non-conforming (or femme) individuals see the world. Black. Fat. Femme is one of the very first books for mainstream readers to look at Black fat femme cis-gender men and how folks have had to find their identity through this lens. A nonfiction book of approximately 65,000 words, it dives deep into the ways in which those who consider themselves Black fat femmes stand at the intersection of multiple identities, communities, and causes and how often they have had to use media to develop their sense of self and self-esteem. In addition, it looks at the complicated ways in which public figures such as André Leon Talley and Alex Newell have helped people learn who they are and what is possible. The book examines the importance of true representation and why it can be so personal, while honoring the pioneers who have fought to be authentically who they are, both onscreen and off"-- Provided by publisher.
