Summary
Panel discussion on the relationship between playwrights and directors, also touching on financial considerations in mounting a show, and other aspects of stage production. Lyricist Martin Charnin and composer Charles Strouse discuss their collaboration on the hit musical Annie, and each compares the experience with ones they have had with other professional partners. Co-directors Joan Micklin Silver and Julianne Boyd talk about their collaboration on the musical revue A...My name is Alice, and on the challenges they have each faced as women in a professional field dominated by men. Silver also speaks of the 1976 film she directed, Hester Street. Director Gregory Mosher discusses various aspects of his work with the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, and explains why he prefers to work in that city. Panelists also take questions from members of the audience.
