- Stage actor and director Douglas Alan-Mann was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 10, 1952. He graduated from Bangor High School in Bangor, Michigan in 1970. Alan-Mann was involved with numerous Chicago-based plays and productions as actor, director and stage manager. He worked as production manager for X-BAG Theater and later as artistic director of Chicago Theater Company. He played roles in such plays as No Place to Be Somebody, Our Town and Ceremonies in Dark Old Men. He appeared in the film Mahogany. He directed The State of Mississippi vs. Emmett Till in 1999, worked on adapting The Journal of Ordinary Thought in 1999 and directed Billy in 2001. In 1975, Alan-Mann was honored by Joseph Jefferson Community Theater Committee with a Jeff Award Nomination for his performance in Where is the Pride, Where is the Joy? at X-BAG Theater. Alan-Mann passed away on April 22, 2011 at age 58.
