- Radio host and record executive Cecil Hale was born on August 3, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1966, he graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. In 1970, Hale started his radio career at WVON in Chicago as an announcer, assistant program director, and assistant music director. Hale then served as president of the National Association of Television and Radio Artists. He earned his M.A. degree from International University of Communications. Leaving WVON in 1977, Hale worked for Phonogram/Mercury Records Polygram while completing his Ph.D. degree in philosophy from the Union Institute. In 1979, he became vice president at Capitol Records/E.M.I., leaving in 1981 to found Hale Media Communications Consultancy. Hale taught broadcasting at City College of San Francisco in 1984 where he received tenure. He spent eight years as general manager for KCSF, a college radio station. Hale completed his M.P.A. degree in public administration at Harvard University in 1995.
