Summary
Pastor and musician Reverend T. L. Barrett, Jr. was born on January 13, 1944 in the Jamaica neighborhood of Long Island, New York. When Barrett was nine, his family moved from New York to Chicago. After his father's death, Barrett went back to New York. There, at sixteen, he worked on cadavers at Flushing Hospital and played piano at the Waldorf Astoria hotel and various churches. He was also a successful executive shoeshine man. Barrett returned to Chicago in 1967 and was soon called to the ministry. He earned a certificate from Bethel Bible College and was named pastor of Life Center Church in 1968. That year, he began to spread his ministry on local radio. By 1973, he was a regular on WBMX, where he remained until switching to WJPC in 1980. Barrett participated in the Million Man March in 1995 and the Million Family March in 2000.
