- Pastor and musician Reverend T. L. Barrett, Jr. was born on January 13, 1944 in the Jamaica neighborhood of Long Island, New York. When Barrett was nine, his family moved from New York to Chicago. After his father's death, Barrett went back to New York. There, at sixteen, he worked on cadavers at Flushing Hospital and played piano at the Waldorf Astoria hotel and various churches.
