- Summary
- Dr. William H. "Bob" Bailey was born on February 14, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from high school at the age of sixteen. At Morehouse College, he studied business law and appeared as a featured singer with the Count Basie Orchestra. In 1950, Bailey enrolled in the School of Radio and Television in New York. He later worked as a co-producer and master of ceremonies for the Moulin Rouge Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. He hosted a variety television show called the Talk of the Town on KLAS Channel 8. It was the first show to be entirely produced, acted and directed by African American talent. Bailey helped desegregate the State of Nevada and has been an outspoken advocate for minority small business and self-sufficiency for over a half of a century. In 2006, a middle school was named in honor of his community and educational contributions.
