- Summary
- Photographs of Shanta Rao in classical South Indian dance poses, performing abhinaya. The photography session was conducted by Avedon in a studio and the images are from a contact sheet, with many bearing editorial markings. Eight of these images were published in the September 1955 issue of Harper's magazine to illustrate an article about Rao titled "The language of gesture."
