- According to AFI catalog of feature films webpage, the 1949 film "Roseanna McCoy" was based on the 1947 novel "Roseanna McCoy" by Alberta Hannum, based on the Hatfield-McCoy feud. This is the first film to protray the feud onscreen. Also, the film had a four-state movie premiere in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana on August 17, 1949. Samuel Goldwyn invited descendants of the Hatfield-McCoy feud to screenings in West Virginia and Kentucky.
