- Summary
- The little-known U.S./Moroccan connection is the backdrop for this offbeat political intrigue set in Casablanca and Washington, D.C.. Armed with crucial human rights documents and herself the target of pursuit, rookie activist Mouallem (Boris Major) foils the attempts of Envoy (Eric Mitchell) to secure a historic Virginia estate as refuge for his royal boss, the King of Morocco. The potential sale of this ancestral home to the US-supported despot triggers a major conflict between its angst-ridden owner Hans (Tom Wright) and his zealous journalist girlfriend Katrina. (Jessica Stutchbury). As the four principal characters move in and out of the U.S. capital on their respective bits of business, a web of interlocking interests is uncovered and barbs are aimed at several venerable institutions. Using sardonic humor, the film takes an evenhanded look at the nature of power and repression.
