- Description
- 2 streaming video files (150 min.) : sound with silent sequences, color.
- Summary
- Mikhail Baryshnikov and White Oak Dance Project perform Past Forward, a retrospective and celebration of Judson Dance. Live works alternate with video sequences, created by Charles Atlas and narrated by Baryshnikov. The video (in Volume I) depicts a brief history of the Judson via stills and interviews, then each live work is bracketed with a quick description by its choreographer. Public participation is part of the program: local dancers, students, and community members take part in several works. Poor overall visual quality. While audio track is available for the video segments and pre-recorded music, there is no recorded sound for the audience or onstage activity. This is most noticeable in "Chair", since Raquel Aedo and Emmanuèle Phuon traditionally hum or sing "Stars and Stripes Forever" in the last part of their performance.
