Summary
On the first hour of the program (2:00-3:00 P. M.), host Steve Sullivan talks with harpsichordist Charlotte Mattax about her schooling, teaching career, playing Bach masterpieces and her own harpsichord. Mattax plays the second half of the Goldberg variations live in the WNYC performance studio. On the second hour of the program (3:00-4:00 P. M.), host Steve Sullivan talks with Romanian violinist/composer Alexander Balanescu about him emigrating to Israel, his studies and life in England, founding the Balanescu Quartet, performing with The Pet Shop Boys, and playing works by David Byrne and Kraftwerk. The quartet plays the second half of the Goldberg variations live in the WNYC performance studio.
