- Summary
- American contemporary composer Marvin Hamlisch discusses his career in musical theater, with emphasis on his hit musical " A Chorus Line" [book by James Kirkwood & Nicholas Dante ; music by Marvin Hamlisch ; lyrics by Edward Kleban ; conceived, choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett] that started as a workshop and moved to Broadway by Joseph Papp in 1975. The show later became one of the longest-running productions in Broadway history. Hamlisch also speaks about his relationships with Michael Bennett, the production's director and choreographer, and with Joseph Papp, the producer of the show, and the founder of the New York Shakespeare Festival. He talks about the team work among and between Joseph Papp, himself, and other production and cast members that led to the great success of the show. He also speaks about his relationship with Papp, about his personality and his talents in theatrical production and direction.
