Summary
A "Great Performances" presentation saluting the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), founded in 1914 and with a membership today of nearly 40,000 writers and publishers. The program was taped at Wolf Trap Farm Park in June 1987, and features performers from every aspect of the music industry: Broadway and Hollywood, country and folk, pop and jazz, gospel and blues, classical and rock. Highlights include: The way we were; Send in the clowns; They didn't believe me; Days of wine and roses; Moon river; Alfie; That old black magic; Motherless child; Freedom; Forever and ever, Amen; Sophisticated lady; The fool on the hill; Broadway baby; Sometimes we're friends; As time goes by; God bless America; Tomorrow. A few composers perform their songs.
