Summary

The concert is preceded by a brief history of Concertgebouw; intermission is filled by a talk about traditions of the German conducting school implanted by Wagner and followed by such prominent composers/conductors as Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Wilhelm Furtwangler, Bruno Walter and others with excerpts from documentaries of the latter two in performances and rehearsals. The program concludes with a brief biography of Carlos Kleiber who continued in the footsteps of those prominent musicians.
