- Summary
- The panel discusses Noumenon and a phrase in the exhibit; Alwin Nikolais' philosphy about using shapes; what Nikolais was interesting in; how Nikolais was abstract and a comparision to Bauhaus style and dance; why the Children's Theater for Dance was created; how dancers handled wearing masks for some of the works; why dancers needed to be versitile; the decentralization of dance and the multiple motivations of the body used during improvisation; how dancers worked with costumes, choreography, and screens when creating works. This discussion concludes with a Q & A session about the reasons why Nikolais' dances are worth saving for future generations of dancers; how the costume fabric changed for Noumenon over the years; when and where Nikolais works are being performed now; how dancers are instructed regarding emotion; Nikolais' reaction to the current use of the internet in regards to dance; and Alberto Del Saz talking about a college not being able to perform The crucible, due to lack of old projectors for screens and that they needed to use new current technology.
