Summary
The first half of the performance is Meredith Monk performing solo musical pieces, primarily vocal. Songs performed include selections from the song cycle Songs from the Hill (Porch, Wa-lie-oh, Jaw Harp [i.e. Jew's Harp]), Click Song #1 from her song cycle Light Songs, Gotham Lullaby, Traveling and The Tale from her opera Education of the Girlchild, and New York requiem. After the intermission Monk and members of her vocal ensemble perform excerpts of her and Ann Hamilton's piece, Mercy. Between songs and scenes, Monk gives brief descriptions of themes and imagery present in the works.
