- Summary
- Presents a musical fairy tale based on the Broadway musical of the same name. Joel Schumacher's screenplay transposed the action from Kansas to New York City. Dorothy, a Harlem schoolteacher disappears in a vortex of snow crystals while chasing after her dog Toto in a snowstorm. Whisked away to the land of Oz, she meets an odd but endearing assortment of characters. Filmed on location in Manhattan with interiors filmed at the historic Astoria Studios.
