Summary
Shot on location in Monument Valley, Utah and in New Mexico, Ford's "militaristic" western is considered an archetype of the genre. The director recounts the story of the Earp brothers' stand against the Clantons using a symmetrical structure opening with the ominous meeting of the Earps and Clantons and closing with the famous gunfight at the OK Corral. Wyatt Earp, a nomadic cowboy, disdains the lawless town of Tombstone but agrees to be marshal when his younger brother James is killed by the amoral Clantons. He forms an uneasy alliance with the brooding, tubercular Doc Holliday and becomes enamored with Clementine Carter, the town's newly-arrived schoolteacher. (Circulates).
