- Summary
- Christian devotion and imperial hypocrisy are satirized in this comedic fable adapted from the Shavian play. The setting is Rome, 161 A.D., during the reign of Emperor Antonius, in the era of the Christian martyrs. Androcles, a simple tailor, removes a thorn from the paw of a lion. When he encounters the same beast in the arena along with other captured Christians, he wins salvation as a reward for his act of kindness.
