- Summary
- Drawing on the ghosts of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Marilyn Monroe, this drama is a suspenseful account of the last forty-eight hours of a man marked by suicide. A self-absorbed alcoholic writer leaves a clinic determined to kill himself, but decides to discover if any of his friends can give him a reason to change his mind. The author, Pierre Drieu La Rochelle, whose 1931 novel formed the basis of the film, killed himself in 1945 after having collaborated with the Nazis.
