Summary
Suzanne Farrell, who created the female role in George Balanchine's Movements for piano and orchestra in 1963 and replaced Diana Adams following the premiere of George Balanchine's Monumentum pro Gesualdo and movements in 1960 for the New York City Ballet, coaches two Suzanne Farrell Ballet dancers in the principal roles of these two works. In the interview section, she discusses the creation and comparison of Movements for piano and orchestra and Monumentum pro Gesualdo, why these two works are always performed together, changes made to the choreography after her departure and return to the company, and how Balanchine used counting to teach choreography to the dancers.
