Summary
John Meehan moderates a panel discussion that recalls the life of Lucia Chase, founder and long time artistic director of the American Ballet Theatre. Panelists include Donald Saddler, who danced in the original company of the American Ballet Theatre, and Alex Ewing, son of Lucia Chase. Ewing talks about Lucia's early days, how his parents met, their courtship and relationship, and his father's early death. Donald Saddler reminisces about his teacher Michael Mordkin. The panel discusses the beginnings of the American Ballet Theatre and ABT's production of Swan lake. Dancers Ted Kivitt and Cynthia Gregory join the panel and reminisce about their auditions with ABT. The panelists then trade stories about Lucia and discuss what made her a great director. The panel discussion is interspersed with dance selections performed by members of ABT, as well as segments of moving image footage, including Lucia dancing in Three virgins and the devil.
