D'Amboise speaks about his childhood and how he began to dance; his early years with the School of American Ballet, Ballet Society and New York City Ballet; Balanchine's choreography for him; the importance of the ballets Filling station and Apollo in his career; Balanchine's admiration for Igor Stravinsky; D'Amboise's movie work, including Seven brides for seven brothers; television performances; his creation of the National Dance Institute to introduce dance into New York City public schools, and his international projects encouraging schoolchildren to raise money for charitable causes.
