- Summary
- Bridget Paolucci moderates two panels that discuss the New York City Opera's production of George Frederic Handel's 1738 opera, Xerxes, translated and sung in English; and Christoph Willibald Gluck's 1779 opera, Iphigenie en Tauride. Panelists for Xerxes include George Manahan, music director of the New York City Opera and conductor for this production of Xerxes, director Steven Wadsworth, soprano Amy Burton singing the role of Romilda, and in her New York City Opera debut, Susanna Waters singing the role of Romilda's sister, Atalanta. Panelists for Iphigenie en Tauride include, in her New York City Opera debut, conductor Jane Glover; Cory Ellison, the dramaturg of the New York City Opera; singing the title role, soprano Christine Gurkey, in her New York City Opera debut; and singing the role of Oreste, baritone Andrew Schroeder, in his New York City Opera debut. Both panels discuss the respective plots, the music, details about each production, as well as performances of selected arias.
