- Summary
- This program includes a panel discussion of the New York City Opera's remounting of Stephen Sondheim's A little night music, interspersed with performances from the musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1973. The director and choregrapher discuss their collaboration on the initial New York City Opera production in 1990 and their work retooling it for a new cast. The composer recalls the creation of the musical in collaboration with book writer Hugh Wheeler and original director Harold Prince. The source material, Ingmar Bergman's 1955 film Sommarnattens leende (Smiles of a summer night), is also extensively discussed, and clips from the movie are included in the program.
