- Summary
- This recording is the sound portion of the non-broadcast version of the television program Trailblazers of modern dance, produced for the Dance in America series of WNET/13, New York. The narrator, Michael Tolan, speaks in broad terms about the development of modern dance, focusing on Isadora Duncan, but also with respect to Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Doris Humphrey, Helen Tamiris, Martha Graham, and other historic dancers and choreographers. This recording includes the music and commentary accompanying, or from the soundtrack of, the various illustrative film excerpts shown in the television program. In addition, Rosemary Harris, the actress, speaks from time to time as the voice of Isadora Duncan, and Frederick Ashton speaks briefly about his impressions of Duncan.

- Sound recording dated June 25, 1977 relating to the television program Trailblazers of modern dance, which was telecast on the Dance in America series by WNET/13, New York, on Jan. 4, 1979. Michael Tolan, is the narrator, and the actress Rosemary Harris speaks as the voice of Isadora Duncan. In addition, Frederick Ashton speaks briefly about Duncan. The program was directed by Emile Ardolino, produced by Merrill Brockway and Judy Kinberg, and written by Elizabeth Kendall. This recording appears to have been made from the non-broadcast version of the program rather than the program as actually shown, which has a slightly different ending. A videocassette of both the non-broadcast version (*MGZIC 9-2581) and of the program as telecast on Jan. 4, 1979 (*MGZIC 9-40) are in the Library's collection.
- The sound quality is fair. The recording is marred by extraneous noise.
