- Summary
- Profile of the New York Shakespeare Festival focusing on its summertime activities. The Mobile Theater travels to 23 parks and playgrounds during the summer in order to bring Shakespeare to the the people in the neighborhoods in which they live. The 1,600 seat theater can be assembled and disassembled in several hours. Performances attract a lot of kids, and a song and dance show entitled Pot luck is staged for them in the afternoon prior to main performance. The Mobile Theater also makes a second tour during the season in which plays of Shakespeare are performed in Spanish. Includes depiction of Mobile Theater setting up, performance excerpts, and audience. The New York Shakespeare Festival presents the plays of Shakespeare free of charge at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, where the 2,300 seat theater accomodated 170,000 last season. Includes depiction of Delacorte Theater ticket line and audience, including Mayor John Lindsay, and performance excerpts from the productions Richard III and Macbeth. The film closes with Lindsay's comments on the New York Shakespeare Festival, and its producer Joseph Papp.
