- Summary
- These discs contain unedited excerpts from the program The mind, the second part of the series Six Saturdays: explorations in six archetypal themes. Yellow Springs director John Clauser introduces Julian Jaynes, who delivers two lectures. The first lecture, titled Consciousness and the voices of the mind, explores the origins and nature of consciousness and the theory of bicameral mind and its breakdown. The last 3 min. of the lecture appear at the beginning of disc 2, followed by a question and answer session, in which Jaynes discusses the relation between schizophrenia and the bicameral mind. The remainder of disc 2 contains the second lecture, titled Imagination and the dance of the self, which explores the nature and origin of the self. Disc 3 contains a performance by Kei Takei and the Moving Earth Company of Light, part 15. At the beginning of his first lectures, Jaynes comments on the performance of Light, part 12, which opened the program but is not included on the recording.
