- Description
- 2 videodiscs (DVD) (152 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- "As in Lohengrin, Wilson reduced Madame Butterfly to its essential elements, avoiding the traditional sets and costumes and focusing on the movement of the singers. The story, in which a Japanese woman, Cio-Cio San, becomes romantically involved with a U.S. naval officer, Pinkerton, is presented by Wilson in the manner of the traditional Japanese No drama. In this he was assisted by his long-time collaborator, Suzushi Hanayagi, one of Japan's leading classical dancers. Aside from a small number of objects, the sets were bare, and most props were imaginary."--robertwilson.com.
