Title
Adolph Green papers, 1944-2002.
Summary
The Adolph Green papers consist of scripts and programs. The scripts include work done for the theater, film, and television. Though this collection contains materials from as early as 1944 and as late as 2002, the bulk of these items are from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The projects that are most extensively represented here are A Doll's Life (1982) and On The Twentieth Century (1978). One of the strengths of this collection lies in its range of scripts by Comden and Green, including unproduced or incomplete works. Also included are multiple drafts of scripts for certain shows, which serve to document the process of revising a script. Materials of special interest relating to musical theater include an early draft of Out of This World (1950), on which Comden and Green did some uncredited script doctoring, and drafts of an unrealized collaboration with Leonard Bernstein on a musical adaptation of Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth. Musical film items of note include a German translation of the film of Bells Are Ringing and early drafts of Comden and Green's MGM film hits Good News (1947), Singin' In the Rain (1952), and The Bandwagon (1953).
