- Summary
- Unedited footage recorded for the documentary Limón: a life beyond words. This tape was recorded on the occasion of José Limón's induction into the Hall of Fame of the National Museum of Dance, and includes candid footage of the guests invited to the induction ceremony, as well as views of the exhibition The dance heroes of José Limón, curated by Norton Owen. For a video tour of the exhibition, which opened at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in New York City and traveled to the National Museum of Dance in conjunction with Limón's induction, see *MGZIA 4-8147 [The dance heroes of José Limón]. She relates several anecdotes about Limón, and discusses some of his work in Philadelphia (including a staging of The moor's pavane for the Pennsylvania Ballet; teaching opera singers at the Academy of Music); her favorite memories of Limón and his work; the creation of his Dances for Isadora; the similarities between Antony Tudor's ballet Dark elegies and Limón's style.

He discusses learning the role of Iago in The moor's pavane in Essen, where he had studied with Betty Jones; coming on scholarship to study in New York City; joining the Limón company, where he danced many of the roles originated by Lucas Hoving, with whom he shared a background of Jooss training; the similar approaches to dance shared by Jooss and Limón.
