- "Mirra nurses a guilty love for her father, Ciniro, king of Cyprus. Tortured by contradictory feelings--her incestuous passion and her ideal of purity--she agrees to marry Prince Pereo. But once at the altar, she cannot bring herself to go through with the marriage. Trapped in a situation with no way out ... she finally commits suicide with her father's sword after confessing to him her forbidden love (which remains unconsummated)"--Insert, p. 18.
