- Jay Gorney (1896-1990) was a composer who worked in collaboration with a number of prominent lyricists and occasionally wrote lyrics for his own songs. He worked as a songwriter for Broadway shows and revues, and also wrote songs and screenplays for Hollywood musicals during the 1930s and '40s. Gorney's career was damaged by political blacklisting in the 1950s.
