- Summary
- Press conference at which the President of the New York Public Library, Paul LeClerc, announces the acquisition of the papers of two composer/lyricist teams: John Kander and Fred Ebb, known for such shows as Cabaret and Chicago, and Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, known for Fiddler on the roof, She loves me, and other musicals. Dr. LeClerc's announcement is followed by remarks from the Executive Director of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Jacqueline Z. Davis, and by producer/director Harold Prince, who also conducts a group interview with the four songwriters themselves. Messrs. Kander, Ebb, Bock, and Harnick discuss their work, their careers, their relationship with the Performing Arts Library, and the changes they perceive in the world of musical theater over the years of their professional life. They also field questions from the audience. Two songs are performed, one by each team.
