Summary

Compilation of excerpts featuring producer/director Joseph Papp from Channel 13 pledge drive conducted during the broadcast of Almonds and raisins, a documentary about the Yiddish theater. Papp is interviewed about his life in an immigrant Jewish family and about the Yiddish theater, and also makes appeals on behalf of the station. Papp discusses his family history, his Orthodox Jewish upbringing; speaking Yiddish as a child and later learning English; his first role in a grade school play; the connection between Jewish religious ritual and the theater; his early experiences attending the Yiddish theater; the influence of Yiddish theater on contemporary theater; mainstream actors whose careers began in the Yiddish theater; the qualities of the Yiddish language theatrically and the preservation of Yiddish.
