- Summary
- Film musical about the onstage and offstage shenanigans of a provincial British theatrical troupe in the 1930s, centering on the timeless story of an understudy who must go on for the star. Musical numbers are presented both in period style and as fantasy sequences evoking the extravaganzas of Busby Berkeley. Among the cast are American tap dancing star Tommy Tune, and Christopher Gable, a former principal dancer with the Royal Ballet who appears here as an actor, tap dancer, and singer.
