Summary
Maria Tallchief, who created the title role in the 1949 production of Firebird, coaches Maria Thomas and Todd Edson in choreographic excerpts danced by the Firebird and Prince Ivan, including the Firebird's variation, the pas de deux, and the berceuse. In an interview beginning at 87 min. into the tape, Tallchief discusses the relationship between Balanchine's ballet classes and his choreography; developing stamina; rehearsing for Firebird; and some technical fine points of its choreography.
