- Description
- 2 videocassettes (VHS, PAL) (157 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Six-part documentary exploring the many faces of contemporary Greek dance and the individuals who helped shape it, past and present. The discussion ranges from Isadora Duncan's visions of a reimagined Greece early in the century, through the attempts to revive ancient Greek dance and drama by Eva Palmer and others, to the evolution of a modern-day Greek identity in dance. The program examines outside influences from the worlds of ballet and modern dance (notably those of Martha Graham and Pina Bausch) as well as the work of pioneering Greek choreographers such as Koula Pratsika and Rallou Manou. Archival footage provides a glimpse of the dances of the past; contemporary voices are represented by performance excerpts and commentaries by Greek choreographers of the present day.
