- Jerome Robbins answers questions about his ballet Variations on I'm old fashioned. The interviewer speaks from behind the camera. Robbins discusses why he picked I'm old fashioned as the basis for his ballet; his admiration for Fred Astaire; his collaboration with Morton Gould; his current feelings about the progress of the work; his idea of creating variations on the choreography of the original Astaire-Hayworth dance; how the ballet fits into the New York City Ballet season; his preference for the ballet world over Broadway; his decision to allow his working process to be observed and filmed; the casting of dancers; his creative process; how opinions of his ballets change over time; his experience of opening nights. - Variations on I'm old fashioned is a ballet tribute to Fred Astaire, with music by Morton Gould, based on Jerome Kern's song I'm old fashioned, from the motion picture You were never lovelier (Columbia, 1942). The ballet premiered on June 16, 1983.
- This tape is one of 36 made between Sept. and Nov. 1982 for a projected documentary on the making of I'm old fashioned. DeWitt Sage, Joel Gold and John Goberman were involved in the project, which was never produced.
