Summary

This tape focuses on Rudolf Nureyev as a choreographer rather than a performer as he works with various cast members on sections of the first act of his version of Cinderella. The first ten minutes of the tape contain a run-through of the beginning of the act, performed by Sylvie Guillem (Cinderella), Georges Piletta (in the travesti role of the mother), and the dancers playing the sisters and father. In the next 44 min. of the tape, Nureyev works intensively with Guillem on Cinderella's solo, often demonstrating movements, sometimes without music. A second woman, perhaps an alternate cast Cinderella or a rehearsal assistant, observes and occasionally dances. There is a change of studio at 37 min. into the tape. At 54 min., Piletta and the other cast members return to rehearse the act from the beginning to the sequence with the wounded aviator whom Cinderella helps. Nureyev works with all the dancers not only on the choreography but on dramatic expression.
