- The New York Chamber Music Society was founded in 1914 by the pianist Carolyn Beebe (later Caroline Beebe Whitehead). For the first 10 years the society was heard in Aeolian Hall. In 1924 a series of concerts, the Sunday Salons, were established at the Plaza Hotel. The Sunday Salons lasted at least through 1937. Whitehead died in 1950, age 76.
