Summary
Performed without decor. The excerpts, from the Kingdom of the shades scene of La bayadère, consist of a dance by Nikiya, Solor and the corps de ballet, followed by the variations of the three bayadères. This recording may have been acquired by or for Rudolf Nureyev for study purposes. He first staged the Kingdom of the shades scene from La bayadère (identified as Act IV) for the Royal Ballet in 1963, and was to stage his own full-length version of the ballet for the Paris Opéra Ballet in 1992.
