Description
2 videocassettes (87 min.) : sd., col. PAL; 1/2 in. (VHS)
Summary
Unedited footage for a made-for-television drama in two parts, celebrating the great ballerinas of the 19th and early 20th centuries, as remembered by two pivotal historical figures: the poet and critic Théophile Gautier, and the impresario Serge Diaghilev, both played by Peter Ustinov. Carla Fracci plays all of the leading ballerinas, each of whom is featured in a significant ballet from her repertory. She is supported by an international cast of male ballet stars. This tape lacks two of the dance segments seen in the completed program (excerpts from Act II of Giselle, and Esmeralda), as well as a montage of Fracci (as Tamara Karsavina) and Charles Jude (as Vaslav Nijinsky) in costume for the ballets Petrouchka, the Firebird, and Pulcinella. Also, some of the actors on this tape speak their lines in Italian; these sections are dubbed in English in the completed program.
