- Cassette 1. Sara Hook (ca. 20 min.) / interviewed by James Cunningham. Hook discusses emotional and physical qualities she explores in her choreography ; her dislike for political correctness in dance ; the separation of high art and entertainment ; the need for dancers to develop their own unique qualities and creativity as well as technical skills.
- Rajika Puri (ca. 18 min.) / interviewed by James Cunningham. Puri discusses her interest in fusion and exploring the structural affinities of different dance and music forms ; her experiments in incorporating voice, considered the impetus for music in India, into her dance works ; the call for more experimentalism and relevance in Indian dance ; dance in Indian films and music videos.
- Maguette Camara (ca. 9 min.) / interviewed by James Cunningham. Camara contrasts the roles of dance in the societies of Senegal, his home, and the U.S. ; he also relates how he came to the U.S., and contrasts the privacy and solitude of American life to the African sense of community.
- Cassette 2. Gloria McLean (ca. 16 min.) / interviewed by James Cunningham. McLean discusses the use of speaking in dance works, comparing its advantages and disadvantages ; she also describes how her choreography seeks to reveal memories and experiences stored in the body. She describes her most recent piece, which she performs blindfolded.
- Debra Zalkind (ca. min.) / interviewed by Gus Solomons jr. Zalkind recalls beginning her career as a modern dancer and becoming a Broadway gypsy in the musical The best little whorehouse in Texas. She discusses the difficulties of a dancer's life and emphasizes the importance of dance as communication from the heart and soul.
- Saeko Miyake (ca. 9 min.) / interviewed by Gus Solomons jr. Speaking after a year and a half in the U.S., Miyake, a Japanese dancer-choreographer, discusses how she began to choreograph ; her recent show at the Joyce SoHo ; her use of improvisation, which she learned to draw upon in the U.S. She comments on some favorite dance classes, teachers, and companies in the U.S.
- Rebecca Frampton (ca. 11 min.) / interviewed by Gus Solomons jr. Frampton traces her career as a ballet dancer, and discusses her activities after her retirement from performing, which included teaching dance to retarded children. Now involved in the antiques trade, she describes how serendipity led to her participation in The horse's mouth.

Manno, a dancer, teacher, singer, and actor, discusses her career, which began with studies at the Katherine Dunham School ; dancing with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet ; performing with Eartha Kitt ; acting at the American Place Theater. She talks about her current activities, which also include songwriting and Haitian drumming.
