Interview with Rudolf Nureyev (ca. 38 min.) / BBC Dance Catalogue #293 ; unedited footage recorded for the BBC series The magic of dance, telecast in 1979 ; interviewer (off-camera), Margot Fonteyn. Nureyev discusses his dance training in Russia in folk dancing and ballet ; his interpretation of the title role in Glen Tetley's work Pierrot lunaire ; his first exposure, in Russia, to western ballet, and his admiration for George Balanchine's choreography ; the achievements of Martha Graham, whom he calls "the mother of modern ballet" ; his collaborations with modern dance choreographers Rudi Van Dantzig, Paul Taylor, and Murray Louis ; his choice of a Bach score for Louis's Vivace ; the collaboration of Vaslav Nijinsky and Michel Fokine ; his concept of himself as an instrument upon which various works can be played ; the diminished role of the 19th-century male dancer, and his attempt to restore the man's importance ; his own choreography, including The nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet.
Interview with Rudolf Nureyev (ca. 5 min.) / unedited footage recorded for "Sir Fred, a celebration," September 30, 1988. Interviewed after the death of Sir Frederick Ashton, Nureyev, then director of the Paris Opéra Ballet, recalls his first meeting with Ashton, and the solo to Scriabin's Poème tragique that Ashton choreographed for him for the gala that introduced him to London in 1961. He praises Ashton's work, and expresses his wish to produce an evening of Ashton ballets at the Paris Opéra.
La bayadère. Act IV [excerpts] (ca. 2 min., si.) / recorded in dress rehearsal onstage on November 25, 1963, by Lord Wakehurst (John Loder) ; choreography, Rudolf Nureyev after Marius Petipa ; danced by Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev with members of the Royal Ballet.
Review (ca. 25 min.) / BBC Dance Catalogue #131, Spool #K9475/K9476 ; November 29, 1969. Excerpts (?) from a documentary on the Dutch National Ballet [Het Nationale Ballet]. Guest artist Rudolf Nureyev is seen rehearsing George Balanchine's Apollo under the supervision of John Taras ; in a company class taught by Hector Zaraspe ; and rehearsing Rudi Van Dantzig's Monument for a dead boy. He reflects on the ballets in voiceover commentaries. A female dancer describes a typical dancer's life, and Van Dantzig discusses his goal of combining classical ballet and modern dance in order to enrich the art form. Dancers demonstrate the contrasting qualities of both forms, performing examples from the Sugarplum Fairy's variation, Giselle, and Van Dantzig's own choreography. Also seen on the program are excerpts from Michel Fokine's Les sylphides.

Joint interview with Rudolf Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn, and choreographer Roland Petit, interspersed with excerpts from a rehearsal of Petit's Pelléas and Mélisande, danced by Nureyev, Fonteyn, and Keith Rosson of the Royal Ballet. The ballet's creation marked Petit's 25th anniversary as a choreographer, and Fonteyn's 35th anniversary as a performer. A narrator provides brief summaries of their careers, illustrated with still photographs. Special mention is made of Petit's Paradise lost, created for Fonteyn and Nureyev in 1967, and his Demoiselles de la nuit, which Fonteyn danced as a guest artist with his company in 1948. The dancers and Petit discuss these ballets and Pelléas and Mélisande ; Nureyev and Fonteyn also talk about their partnership.
